"Bağ" Holiday Village

Cunda Island, Ayvalık, Balıkesir - TURKEY
Project Area : 6755 m²
7th term project
Instructor : Prof. Dr. Murat Deniz SOYGENİŞ

“Bağ Holiday Village” emerged with the conceptual examination, questioning, and reinterpretation of the 21st-century holiday village project approach, and in this context, design criteria were determined. The geographical features of the region have been one of the most important criteria in determining the outline of the design. Local building traditions and climatic features of the region were used in the design process. The historical flour mill existing on the land provided a different framework for the design and guided the site plan decisions. Current needs were prioritized in the design of the architectural space setup. Instead of tackling the slope factor, which is seen as an accessibility barrier, the slope has been used as a tool. A context-appropriate placement was prioritized. The layout of architectural spaces (nodal points) is connected to each other with wooden cords above the water, creating visual-functional integrity. With a neo-classical and minimalist approach, garlic stone and wood (pine) were preferred as materials both in the buildings and in the hard landscape. Small interventions to the plain and local vegetation have contributed to the design's effort to integrate with the "ground".
